Another Reason To Get Enough Sleep

Why do you need a good sleep routine? One important reason is that if you do not get enough sleep you increase your risk of catching a cold This conclusion was reached in a study published in the journal Sleep. I would not have volunteered for this study, but 164 people did. They were quarantined, given nasal drops containing the cold virus and monitored for five days.

The investigators found that those who averaged less than six hours of sleep per night were much more likely to develop a cold than those sleeping seven or more hours.

It has long been suspected that sleep deprivation compromises the immune system. This study is one more bit of supportive evidence. Sleep well tonight!

K IS For Kale Have You Tried It?

Kale is a cruciferous vegetable, a leafy relative of broccoli and Brussels sprouts. It is high in vitamin K and beta carotene. It also has good levels of potassium, manganese, fiber, iron, magnesium and some other nutrients. One cup of kale is 35 calories and supplies 50 milligrams of vitamin C and about 100 milligrams of calcium. It is also a source of compounds that have anti-cancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects.

You can eat kale raw or steamed. You can eat kale chips or whip it into a smoothie. Why not try it?
