Should you wash produce?

Yes! Here is the way to do it. Make certain that everything that you use is clean and wash your hands thoroughly. Rinse under cold running water and use a brush for extra cleaning for produce such as potatoes and carrots. Do not use soap and detergents.

Special produce washes are expensive and not proven to be more effective than washing with water. Blot dry with a paper towel. Wash fruits and vegetables just before you plan to eat them. Washing and then storing can promote mold and bacterial growth.
